Who We Are
Our Mission
Our Vision
Our vision is to be a beacon of hospitality and service for Arbaeen pilgrims, creating a lasting impact through our dedicated Mowkub next to the shrine of Imam Hussain. We aspire to foster a sense of unity and community among Shia Muslims worldwide, transcending borders and backgrounds. By providing exceptional care and support to every pilgrim, we aim to inspire future generations to uphold the values of compassion, generosity, and solidarity. Through our unwavering commitment, we envision a pilgrimage experience that deeply enriches the spiritual journey of each pilgrim, strengthens the bonds of the global Shia community, and fortifies the Shia community in Australia, promoting cohesion and mutual support.
The Arbaeen marks the 40th day after Ashura, the day of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) . Imam Hussein was martyred in the Battle of Karbala on the 10th day of Muharram in the year 680 AD.
Key aspects of Arbaeen include:
-
Commemoration of Martyrdom: Arbaeen is a day of mourning to honor the sacrifice of Imam Hussein, his family, and his companions, who stood against the tyranny and injustice of Yazid, the Umayyad caliph.
-
Pilgrimage: One of the most remarkable aspects of Arbaeen is the pilgrimage to the city of Karbala in Iraq, where Imam Hussein is buried. Millions of Shia Muslims from around the world walk to Karbala, making it one of the largest annual peaceful gatherings in the world.
-
Acts of Service: Along the pilgrimage routes, especially from cities like Najaf to Karbala, many temporary structures (mowkibs) are set up to provide free food, water, medical aid, and rest areas to the pilgrims. These services are offered as acts of devotion and charity.
-
Spiritual Reflection: Arbaeen is a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, and mourning. It is an opportunity for Shia Muslims to reaffirm their commitment to the principles of justice, sacrifice, and resistance against oppression, as exemplified by Imam Hussein.
-
Global Observance: While the pilgrimage to Karbala is the focal point, Arbaeen is also observed by Shia communities worldwide through various religious gatherings, processions, and rituals to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.
The Arbaeen pilgrimage and its associated rituals highlight the deep reverence Shia Muslims hold for Imam Hussein and the values he stood for, serving as a powerful symbol of faith, resilience, and community solidarity.
